There are cracks on the edge of the label backing paper: this is a common label breakage. After the self-adhesive label is processed into a finished product through die cutting, the backing paper is generally left wider than the label, in order to facilitate the removal of the label when the customer applies it. During the transportation and handling of label packaging, it is easy to crack the bottom paper at the edge of the label, causing small cracks. Automatic labeling machines have a certain amount of tension during labeling, and labels with cracks at the edges of the backing paper are easily pulled apart under the action of tension, leading to label breakage. In addition, there are also cases where the roller adjustment on the automatic labeling machine is not appropriate, resulting in the roller fracturing the bottom paper at the edge of the label and causing the label to break. Generally, label breakage caused by roller pressure on the backing paper results in regular cracks in the backing paper. Therefore, we need to choose label paper without cracks.
Poor die cutting. The quality of die-cutting also has a significant impact on whether it is easy to break the tape during automatic labeling. If the die-cutting pressure is too high, it can cause the bottom paper to be cut through, resulting in a decrease in the tensile strength of the bottom paper and causing labeling to break. The label breakage caused by poor die-cutting results in a relatively uniform surface of the bottom paper, and the crack is located at the position of the die-cutting line. We can adjust the control screws of the die-cutting to make the die-cutting force moderate.
The release layer is damaged. If the release layer of the base paper (usually the silicon oil layer) is damaged, it can also lead to label breakage. The label breakage caused by this situation has a serrated fracture surface on the backing paper. The reason for the damage of the release layer is due to defects in the raw material production coating, and improper handling during the inspection and marking process in the printing factory may also cause scratches on the release layer.
If there is a broken label on the labeling machine, you can try adjusting it according to the method mentioned above. However, there are many factors that can cause the label to break, so you should make a rational choice.
